Adding New Devices

A new device is any browser or a mobile device that doesn't have CloudMask. With CloudMask each device has its own unique secret key, used to encrypt and decrypt data.

It is recommended that your CloudMask account have more than one device in order to act as backups to each other. This allows you to mitigate against potential loses of your historical data when a device is lost.

Also, with multiple devices set up, you can access your encrypted data from any of your different machines.

When adding a device to your account, you may choose one of the following:

Creating A New Key

Devices with new keys enable you to create and share encrypted data, however, only when you authorize your newly created device can you access your historical data.

Use following steps to add a new device:

  1. Sign up new device;
  2. Authorize new device

Signing up your new device

From the device you want to add, sign up with CloudMask, as described in Signing Up. Be sure to use option Already a CloudMask User? > Activate as New.

Authorizing your new device

Switch to one of your active devices. Access My Devices from your CloudMask Portal and authorize the new device you'd like to add to your account.

Authorizing a new device allows you to see all your historical data. If you don't have data that requires recovery, you can safely, skip this step.

Restoring From Backup

You can use one of your existing secret keys to add new devices. This allows you to both create and share encrypted data and restore all your historical data. You must, however, have access to corresponding file and associated password.

From the device you want to add, sign up with CloudMask, as described in Signing Up. Be sure to use option Already a CloudMask User? > Restore from Backup Choose Backup File.
